During National Anti-bullying week schools all over the UK take a special focus on anti- bullying to support children throughout the country.
This year's theme is 'REACH OUT!'. This is a 2 fold message:
It is a reminder to those who are being bullied to reach out to a trusted friend or adult to get help.
It is also a reminder to others to reach out to those who may be being bullied or at risk or bullying to help and support them.
There is a short video clip explaining the main points of the focus:

As part of Anti-Bullying week, we will be having ODD SOCKS DAY on Tuesday. This is a chance for children to come into school wearing odd socks for the day if they wish! (FREE).
Odd socks remind us that we are all different and that is a wonderful thing!
We incorporate Anti-Bullying week as part of our whole school PSHE curriculum which this term focuses on 'Celebrating Difference'.
There is parental support pack designed by the Antibullying Alliance in conjunction with Kidscape:

There are also other charities such as the NSPCC which can offer advice.
If you or your child have any concerns over bullying, please contact your child's class teacher or Mrs Wood - our Parent Support Advisor.
"Children take pride in their learning"
'Walk to School Week' is an annual event which aims to encourage children to walk to school, if possible. St Martin's aims to show the benefits to the children and the environment by increasing the amount of walking to school they do - even if it is only once a week.
Good News!!... scooting and cycling count too!
We do understand it is not always possible to walk to school, but maybe your family could walk for other journeys where you would otherwise use the car?
We will be asking the pupils how they travelled to school each day next week (the data will be non-named) and will be looking for the classes who have walked, scooted or cycled to school the most over the week.
The Living Streets 15 page leaflet below covers a whole range of activities for families to enjoy whilst walking.

Our Reception and KS1 children have been working hard designing and painting their own Santa design this week.
Well done to Taylor in Hazel class and Matilda in Pine class whose designs were chosen and all the children then helped to paint our St Martin's 3ft Santa which will form part of the Weston Santa Trail.

St Martin's will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 4th March and will be linking our activities with our School's ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ ethos - as Reading Books offer so many opportunities to be Active, Keep Learning, Give, Take Notice and Connect.
In School and via our Home Learning we will be offering activities to explore these values through specially chosen Stories and Books suitable for each year group. We will encourage everyone to get involved whether in school or at home.
There are 2 ways to do this:
1) by dressing up as a favourite character from a book and
2) by sharing a story together as a family, with a pet, with toys or virtually with a family member over zoom etc.
You can do either or both and we would love you to take photos and send them to us on World Book Day so we can share them via our social media pages and display boards in school. All photos received will be entered into a draw.
CLOSING DATE END OF MONDAY 8TH MARCH.
A Bookish Prize will go to 1 lucky entry per year group - winners will be picked the following week.
Please send your photos by email directly to: sharephoto@stmartinsschool.org.uk (please include Year Group, child's initials in your email).
Please Note: that by parents/carers forwarding your child's World Book Day photos to sharephoto@stmartinsschool.org.uk you are giving your consent for photos to be shared on our official St Martin's School Facebook/Twitter pages/school website.
