Class News

Explorer Dome Visit - Thursday 26th March:   Year 5 and 6 will be visited by Explorer Dome on 26th March. The children will be participating in an interactive science show led by the Explorer Dome presenters who are experienced, highly trained and passionate about science. The theme of the session will be based on ‘environment’, linkings to their current Biomes Geography topic they will be covering that term. Please see letter below for more details, a copy was sent home via SchoolPing. We would like to ask for a contribution of £4.36 per child to help fund this event, payable via www.parentpay.com by 2^nd March 2026. Explorer Dome will engage and support your child’s Geographical learning and will provide them with an experience which we would otherwise not be able to deliver.

Year 6 Educational Visit to Lifeskills Centre: The children have an upcoming visit to the Lifeskills Centre, Bristol on Thursday 12th February 2026. This provides a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience real life scenarios and think about how they would cope in these situations. Please see letter below for more details - please complete payment contribution via www.parentpay.com

SATs Revision Guides: In May your child will be taking Key Stage 2 SATs tests. We will be holding a SATs evening at school to meet with you to explain what the tests are all about, what we will be doing as a school and how you can support at home (details to follow in Term 4). In order to help prepare and support your child, we will be using the CGP SATs Busters books for homework. We've ordered these at a hugely discounted rate from CGP - please see letter below for more details.

In Term 1, Year 5 and 6 launched their History topic with a Victorian afternoon!
Kingfishers, Ospreys and Puffins visited each class to take part in a Victorian experience, that helped to set the scene for their upcoming topic. The children took part in chronological activities with Mrs Emery, where they needed to order the Victorian time line, order and discuss Victorian inventions and how they are used and look today and also handle Victorian toys. With the use of AI and Mrs Read, the children were able to ask Queen Victorian questions about her reign to gain more information about this era. The quiz style recording was a competitive hit! The children were very excited to also experience a Victorian lesson with the very strict (only when pretending to be a Victorian!) Mr Feeley! They were told about Victorian classroom punishments (the dunce cap) and took part in some Victorian arithmetic and singing! The children had a fantastic afternoon, getting into the swing of everything Victorian!

Year 5 and 6 had an inspiring morning at their very own Careers Fayre on 10th September. The children have been discussing about their future selves, and were able to talk to professionals about the amazing jobs they do. The children were able to learn so much from the people in their local area. Thank you so much to the wonderful people from SGS Sport, Avon and Somerset police, Herbs on the hill, GWR, Weston College, School Sports Teaching, The NHS, AI, Infinity Plumbing and cyber security who made this unforgettable day happen.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and were very inspired. 

Y7 Secondary Transfer September 2026:
North Somerset School Admissions have shared details of the application process for September 2026 transfer to Secondary school (please see letter below).  This has been sent home with your child at the start of September.

Applications open 12th September 2025 and close at 11:59pm on the National Closing Date, 31st October 2025. Please ensure North Somerset receive your completed application before the closing date.

Any applications that are received before the closing date have a higher chance of being offered a place at their preference schools than those received late. Before you complete your application form, please read the Parents’ Guide, which will also be available by 12th September at:
