St Martin’s uses the Language Angels scheme to deliver a broad, relevant and ambitious curriculum that inspires pupils through a wide range of topics and themes. We set high expectations so that all children can achieve their full potential and feel confident to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2.
Children are taught the four key skills—listening, speaking, reading and writing—and essential grammar is introduced progressively and age appropriately. This builds strong foundations for future learning and supports wider attainment across the curriculum. Children also learn how to research an unfamiliar language and develop a growing bank of reference materials to support recall and build on prior knowledge.
Our intent is that all pupils develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about languages. Learning a second language helps them explore identity, understand other cultures and broaden their awareness of the world. Ultimately, we aim to nurture confident, culturally aware and lifelong language learners.
