Achievement For All - Quality Lead School Status: On 7th November we were delighted to be officially presented with our Achievement For All Quality Lead Status. We were joined by Sheila Smith, the North Somerset Director for People and Communities, Laura Bromberg, Achievement For All Regional Director and Neil Harris, our Achievement For All Coach. This is an extremely prestigious and rare award (we were the first Primary School in our region to achieve this award) and recognises the hard work and dedication of our staff and children at school and in the community. It shows that our children make good progress, including those who have significant barriers to overcome. ‘It is a stamp of quality for our standards.’ Well done to everyone.
St Martin’s Achieves Travel Award November 2016: During a whole school assembly, St Martin's School received the Bronze award from Modeshift STARS and North Somerset for all the hard work and effort made to change the way children travel to school. As a result we have more children safely riding bikes and scooters to school which is healthier for them and kinder to the planet. A special thanks goes to Mrs Chadwick and all our children who have been Travel Ambassadors over the last 2 years, also to the parents who are supporting us in trying to make the journey to school as safe and healthy as possible.
New School Library Opening: On 31st October we were very lucky to welcome best selling, award winning Author of ‘The Last Wild’ triology, Piers Torday to open our new library. Piers is a keen supporter of libraries and the importance of reading for pleasure in children’s lives so we were thrilled when, as part of our opening ceremony celebration, he agreed to take part in an a very inspirational ‘Question and Answer’ session with our wonderful Pupil Librarians. After this Mr Marriott and Mr Torday made some inspiring speeches before our author cut the ribbon and the library was officially open! There followed a book signing where our children had the opportunity to meet the author and receive their copy of his work including the newly released ‘There May Be A Castle’. The opening celebrations continued throughout the week with all year groups visiting the library to take part in a book themed activity... We are open daily from 8.30am-8.45am and after school Monday – Thursday 3.00-3.30pm and look forward to seeing you!
Author Visits Year 4 - Term 6: St Martin's hosted an enrichment opportunity for some of our Year 4's to work with published author, poet and musician, Stan Cullimore. They were joined by pupils from other local schools and the day proved to be a huge success.
SIAMs Inspection: Our School recently underwent our Church School SIAMs Inspection. We are delighted to say that our report is now on our school website and that we are thrilled with our ‘Good’ grade. The Inspector was very complimentary about our children and all aspects of school life. Thank you to our children, staff , parents and Governors for this achievement.
RE Quality Mark: We are pleased to have achieved the Silver RE Quality Mark award by the external assessor who visited us. They interviewed staff and children and examined planning, work and assessment data to ensure we met the standards for this award. A big thank you to Mrs Byron for leading RE so successfully.
St Martin’s Appearing in BBC Programme: The BBC are producing a new children’s CBBC programme called Top Class, which they will be filming during April. Congratulations to our St Martin’s Team who were successful in being selected to appear on the brand new show! The children have a wonderful opportunity to travel up to Glasgow, all expenses paid, during the filming at BBC Glasgow.
Our Library celebrated ‘National Libraries Day’ this week with some Alice In Wonderland inspired activities. The children enjoyed playing croquet with ‘flamingos’ and ‘hedgehogs’ just like the game played by Alice in the Queen of Hearts garden! They also made ‘Unbirthday’ cards and entered a trivia competition to win the ‘Wonderland’ Cup!
